Of course the minute I post that story about VOIP over land lines Hotwired posts a story warning about possible security flaws in VOIP internet traffic. The article doesn't draw any real conclusions other than the issues are known and the various companies are working on them. Still, everyone I know using VONAGE is quite happy with the service and haven't experienced any security problems at all.

I've been using Vonage for some time now and can say that I'm not concerned about security in any way. It's actually more secure that an analog phone line. All anyone needs to do with an analog service is tap into the box on the OUTSIDE of your house with a basic Home Depot Butt-Set to hear your conversation. With VOIP you'd need a packet sniffer. Plus, who cares what I say to Grandma anyway. The quality has improved over the past few months, I'm quite happy.
