Believe it or not there was a time when there were no refrigerators. People ate what was available or only bought what would keep. The advent of the ice-box actually played a key role in allowing humanity to move into larger and larger cities where the farms were pushed farther and farther away.
What if you wanted to live that way again today. We'll you'd either need to grow a lot of your own food, or live very near to a great market. If you did you might look at the i Green Kitchen.
The i Green concept kitchen (designed by Italian kitchen brand Veneta Cucine in collaboration with Indian designer Nilay Shah) has no refrigerator. Instead, it utilizes baskets and trays made from wood and biodegradable plastics.
With a kitchen like this you would buy only what you planned to consume in the next few days. You would also live lighter on the land by producing less waste and using less energy.
Would you be willing to go back to the days before the ice-box?
